America’s Next Top Model winner Whitney Thompson launches dating site for plus-size women

Former America’s Next Top Model winner Whitney Thompson has launched a dating site especially for plus-size women.

The 2008 champion – who was the first full-figured model to win the competition – launches her business venture, The Big and The Beautiful, this week.

Thompson, 24, tells the New York Post that she came up with idea after her personal struggles with online dating.

‘[When] I would [call myself] a “plus-sized model”… guys would expect me to be a really big girl,’ she tells the newspaper.

‘But if I said: “I’m a model”, [they were] disappointed that I’m bigger. Either way, I wasn’t what the guy was looking for.’

Women will pay $40 a month to find love on The Big and The Beautiful.

In another interview Thompson tells celebrity website Radar Online: ‘I created this site so people don’t have to stress over their profile, but can focus on the fun and excitement of meeting and dating other incredible people of all shapes and sizes.’

At 5ft 10, the Florida-native is a US dress size 12, which is a UK size 14.

In a message on, Thompson says her dating site is a place where ‘you can be yourself.’

She says: ‘I created this site for real women with real curves looking for real pleasure.

‘Unlike other dating sites where members feel pressured to fit a certain mould, posting older ‘flattering’ pictures or even lying on their profiles, everyone here has the freedom to be their true selves.

‘So what if you have a big butt? Men love extra padding!’

And in a message to potential male consumers she says: ‘And guys, I don’t have to tell you this site is the best place to meet all of your needs.

‘Spend a little time talking to these sexy ladies and I know you’ll be satisfied.’

Since winning the popular reality TV show – which is hosted by model Tyra Banks – Thompson has posed topless for Love Your Body Day and served as a spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association, both of which are US-based.
