Google’s 3Q earnings rose 26%, helped by an increase in paid clicks

Google Inc.’s (GOOG) third-quarter earnings rose 26% as more users than expected clicked on the Internet search company’s advertising and its relatively new mobile phone and display-advertising businesses made headway.

The Mountain View, Calif., company saw its revenue jump 33% in the period to just short of $10 billion. The better-than-expected results helped to ease concerns about Google’s progress in an uncertain economy and lifted the company’s stock by 6.5% in after-hours trading to $595.42.
