Twitter Inc.’s been spinning quite a turnaround story in the press lately. The microblogging service “has finally turned a corner,” declares the cover of Bloomberg Businessweek. “It’s a juggernaut,” a company executive tells the magazine. But the hard numbers we’ve been provided paint a very different story.
Executives at the firm said they had resolved a long-running legal dispute over ownership of the term by US advertising company Twittad.
At a press conference with Mayor Bloomberg to celebrate the opening of Twitter’s New York City offices, co-founder Jack Dorsey gave the Big Apple his endorsement as a startup capital. “New York will have a thriving tech community and we will help build that,” he says.
We’re not exactly surprised. As we predicted in May, according to Twitter is setting up its European HQ in Dublin (in fact this is its first international office outside the Valley). The reasons are simple: money.
The process has been mostly quiet, but we are starting to see some signs of the process. For example, last week, Twitter’s early board members — Fred Wilson and Bijan Sabet — resigned from their posts. Even the chief scientist, Abdur Chowdhury, is leaving.
Frenaye tweets about events in town (the Silopanna festival) and breaking news (car accident in Crofton). And there are some personal details, like when a recent stop at Taco Bell “hit the spot.”
But there’s nothing on his account about what he looks like — or what he looks for in a romantic partner. He wasn’t looking for love, at least not through Twitter.
